About the Artist

Biography — Donald Craig Maddox

Born in 1968 in a small town in the United States, D.C. Maddox was an avid reader from an early age and developed an interest in history, ancient mysteries of the world, and space exploration. Science fiction and fantasy works by Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft helped steer his interests toward the darker side of fiction literature.

Subsisting on a steady diet of monster classics, Dr. Who, Planet of the Apes, and Night Gallery, Maddox become immersed in the culture of the weird and strange.

The artist in 2016

In 1988 Maddox left home to serve in the US Army. Upon his return to the United States, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia Design and continued to study art at the New Masters Academy. He received additional training in painting and drawing from a diverse assortment of instructors in the US and overseas.

Maddox brings his distinctive visions to life primarily using acrylics and inks with the airbrush, but also completes some works using watercolors, oils, and gouache. Additionally, he creates mixed media and experimental works by combining different types of paint or by layering traditional mediums over digital art.

Today, Maddox lives in the southern US with his wife and children. When not painting, he can be usually be found walking his pet tyrannosaur or playing music.
